What totalBarça was

A community of culers, not another feed.

For a decade, totalBarça was the English-language home for supporters who wanted more than headlines. Founded in 2009 and run entirely by volunteers, it reached over a million readers a month at its peak. That did not come from algorithms or clickbait. It came from honest match coverage, considered opinion, and a community of culers who cared about the club the way good writers care about their subjects.

In 2019, when the noise got too loud, the longform stepped back, though the X account never went quiet.

Now totalBarça returns. Smaller on purpose, sharper by design.

Where the name comes from

In 1974 the Dutch called it totaalvoetbal, a way of playing where any player can become any other. Cruyff carried the idea to Catalunya, where it became the way Barça plays, and the way culers think. In 2009, we took the name for ourselves. Total football. Total coverage. totalBarça.

Seventeen years, four chapters

  1. 2009

    The founding

A handful of volunteers start writing about Barça in English, properly. No budget, no bosses, no banner farm.

  2. 2010s

    A million a month

At its height totalBarça reaches over a million readers a month, on nothing but honest match coverage and considered opinion.

  3. 2019

    The step back

Barça coverage has become an industry of volume: aggregation, rumour cycles, fifteen takes on one press conference. Rather than add to it, totalBarça stops publishing longform. The X account and the other social channels keep the conversation going.

  4. 2026

    The return

In the summer of 2026 the longform comes back as one weekly dispatch, starting with the 2026/27 season. It arrives once the weekend's matches are played, says its piece, and leaves you alone until the next one. Free, forever.
